TUNIS, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia on Monday evacuated inhabitants of a village in the northwestern province of Jendouba after a wildfire broke out in adjacent forests, the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) reported.
"Early on Monday morning, and in a short time, the flames spread in the forests of the village of Melloula, in the town of Tabarka in Jendouba province," TAP quoted Regional Director of Civil Protection in Jendouba Adel Labidi as saying.
About 2,500 inhabitants of the village are now being evacuated.
Several wildfires have taken place in the region since last week. Labidi said the reappearance of the fire is caused by the strong heat wave coupled with violent wind.
