BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

OTTAWA -- Canada saw an average of 2,821 COVID-19 new cases daily on Oct. 15-21, a decrease of 11 percent compared to the previous week, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada on Friday.
Hospitalization and critical care admission trends, primarily involving unvaccinated people, were stabilizing in the country.
The latest data showed that 2,367 people with COVID-19 on average were being treated in hospitals each day on Oct. 15-21, which was 4 percent lower than the previous week.

SANTIAGO -- Chile exceeded 2,000 daily cases of COVID-19 infection, reporting 2,086 new cases in the last 24 hours for a total caseload of 1,678,023, the Ministry of Health said Friday.
The ministry also registered 11 more deaths from the disease, bringing the pandemic death toll to 37,651.

ANKARA -- Turkey on Friday confirmed 28,192 new COVID-19 cases, raising its tally of infections to 7,800,796, according to its Health Ministry.
The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 228 to 68,700, while 30,302 more people recovered in the last 24 hours, said the ministry.

BERLIN -- Rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in Germany this week have led experts to predict a spike in infections this fall and winter.
For the first time since mid-May, Germany's seven-day COVID-19 incidence exceeded 90, with 95.1 cases per 100,000 people, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Friday.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa reached 8,455,978 as of Friday evening, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.
The Africa CDC, the specialized healthcare agency of the African Union (AU), said the death toll from the pandemic across the continent stands at 216,517.
