TUNIS, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Othman Jerandi received on Friday visiting United Nations (UN) Undersecretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo to discuss the current situation in Tunisia.
The UN official reiterated her confidence in Tunisia's ability to complete its reform process as soon as possible and to meet the challenges of the current stage, according to a statement released by Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Saying the UN understands the reasons for Tunisian President Kais Saied's recent decisions, DiCarlo insisted on the role that Tunisia plays within the UN Security Council in addition to its efforts to explore common ground among member states and to strengthen the foundation of peace and security around the world.
The Tunisian diplomat elaborated the UN envoy the reasons and circumstances of the exceptional measures imposed by Saied on July 25.
"These measures are part of a process of rectification aiming to restore a true democracy based on the supremacy of the law and satisfies the will of the people," said Jerandi.
