SYDNEY, Australia - Stock markets in Asia spent Thursday selling off with major exchanges closing with solid losses.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 fell 109.99 points or 0.48% to 23,035.58.
The Australian All Ords was off 50.60 points or 0.74% at 6,777.70.
China's Shanghai Composite was solidly in the red but trimmed losses towards the close. The key index ended down 7.42 points or 0.25% at 2,903.64.
Whilst yet to close at the time of writing, the Hang Seng in Hong Kong was down several hundred points.
The U.S. dollar was mixed. The euro remained well bid at 1.1073. The British pound was also holding on to overnight gains at 1.2925.
The Japanese yen inched up to 108.55. The Swiss franc was unchanged at 0.9910.
The Canadian dollar was steady at 1.3313, while the Australian and New Zealand dollars drifted lower to 0.6797 and 0.6414 respectively.
Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrials were down 112.93 points or 0.40% at 27,821.09.
The Standard and Poor's 500 lost 11.72 points or 0.38% to 3,108.46.
The Nasdaq Composite fell 43.93 points or 0.51% to 8,526.73.
