DUBBO, Central West, NSW, Australia - A 19-year old youth appeared in court in the Central West of New South Wales, Australia on Friday on an astonishing array of charges.
In the space of a little over 24 hours, the young man allegedely breached an ADVO, stole four cars, was involved in 3 police pursuits, all of which had to be terminated due to safety concerns, committed a burglary, fought a woman and attempted to stab a man.
The 19-year old faced the Dubbo Local Court on Friday, clearly with a lot of explaining to do.
The drama began around 3:00pm on Wednesday when the teenager allegedly breached an enforceable ADVO when sending a series of abusive text messages to a woman he knows.
Police attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District in Gulgong sighted the young man sometime after 7:00pm. When approached, it is alleged he ran from police, stealing a Landcruiser in the process.
About 12:10am Thursday police engaged in a pursuit with the man travelling on the Golden Highway east of Dubbo. The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.
A little over two hours later, it is alleged the man broke into a Fitzroy Street home in Dubbo about 2.30am Thursday, where he attempted to steal a Hyundai Accent.
The man was confronted by a woman who lived in the house and a struggle ensued. It is alleged the 19-year old produced a knife and threatened the woman, before attempting to stab a man who confronted him.
The man then fled the scene - in the Hyundai Accent.
Less than an hour later, at 3:37am Thursday police engaged in a second pursuit with the man which was terminated again due to safety concerns.
It is alleged the man stole a third vehicle a short time later.
Police attended a Godwins Lane address at Dubbo about 2.10pm Thursday following reports the man was at the location.
The man fled police, and allegedly stole a fourth vehicle from Mogriguy Road, which was also involved in a terminated pursuit later that afternoon.
About 7:00pm Thursday, multiple police descended on a Fitzroy Street address at Dubbo where the man was believed to be hiding-out.
Police successfully arrested the man without incident and he was taken to Dubbo Police Station where he faced a string of charges, most of which he had racked up in a little over 24 hours. Adding to his woes, in terms of stealing cars and getting involved in police pursuits, is that he doesn't have a license.
The young man was also on bail. That, police say, is no longer the case.
"It was really good police work in difficult circumstances to apprehend this man so quickly, and it was a result of a joint effort between Western Region High Risk Domestic Violence Team, Orana Mid-Western Police District Detectives and TAG Unit, Traffic & Highway Patrol, and general duties from Dubbo," Orana Mid-Western Police District Crime Manager, Detective Chief Inspector Denise Godden said Friday.
